Is your addiction to stress the reason your body isn't healing?
I see it all the time, clients are "doing all the right things" but not healing because their body is STUCK in a state of fight or flight- the body simply won't heal unless it's in a restful state.
When stuck in fight or flight the body feels as though it is currently being threatened so it pauses "unnecessary" organ function(hormone production, digestion, saliva secretion etc) to recruit as much energy as possible to bring blood flow to the muscles so it can respond to the threat. AKA it isn't recruiting energy to healing.
The "I'm not addicted to stress" but I really am starter pack
Refuses to take rest days unless their body is completely exhausted/sore
Addicted to their phone & social media, 4+ hours of screen time daily
Always distracts themselves instead of actually resting
Doesn't believe a workout is "good enough" unless cardio or HIIT is involved
Intermittent fasts for 16+ hours or drinks coffee on an empty stomach
Doesn't know how to rest or do nothing
Their idea of a stress relieving exercise is only a workout
Struggles to do anything slow like yoga or meditation
Always believes they have to do more or be more, doesn't think they're doing enough
Can always find a reason to add things to their to do list
The body CANNOT HEAL in a state of fight or flight. It truly needs to be in a parasympathetic state to heal & recruit proper energy towards organ function & healing.
Stress is SNEAKKYYYYYYY! There are so many ways it sneaks in your life & your ego can justify staying stressed out & busy. And especially in our technological age it’s truly so easy to be in a constant state of fight or flight.
At one point in my journey I checked off almost every single one of these in the “starter pack” that’s why this post was easy to make. But you can make the choice to calm your body, you can make the choice to choose to live a less stressful life, one decision at a time.
