Why you should switch to natural deodorant
I always get asked “what is the first personal care product that you would switch over?”
My immediate answer is always deodorant!
Why is having nontoxic deodorant so important?
Antiperspirants work by closing your pores to prevent sweating. The sweat that isn’t being released by your body builds up underneath the skin, sometimes causing skin irritation and issues.
Traditional deodorants are filled with chemicals like aluminum that have been linked to heavy metal toxicity and breast cancer.
Antiperspirants make it harder for your body to sweat, which it needs to in order to detox. The toxins that aren’t being released will recirculate back into your body.
When switching to a natural deodorant it is important to go without deodorant for a few days. Give your body the time to push the chemicals out through your pits. If you switch directly over to a natural deodorant, which has baking soda it may cause irritation if you don’t properly detox your armpits first. Personally I like to use Beautycounter’s charcoal mask, it is expensive but I don’t do it often.
What to look for in non toxic deodorants:
Minimal ingredients
Equal amounts of baking soda and essential oils
All ingredients that you know
My favorite nontoxic deodorants are Beautycounter and Primally Pure, they both have simple formulas and don’t cause irritation to my skin. If baking soda in deodorants commonly irritates your armpits the Primally Pure charcoal and blue tansy scent have the least amount of baking soda and I have found they don’t irritate me.
